Our firm specializes in Business Law/Business Litigation, Real Property Law, Intellectual Property, Entertainment Law and Insurance issues in matters ranging from the ordinary to the extremely sophisticated and complex. As a courtesy to our clients, we also provide adjunct legal services as necessary or, upon request, will refer you to a specialist should the matter not be within our expertise.
Over the decades we have handled numerous business and commercial issues ranging from the structuring of your company (C-corporation, Sub-s Corporation, LLC, partnership, sole proprietorship or limited partnership) to negotiating and documenting your deals to litigating disputes in state or federal courts. The matters we handle can be run of the mill or extraordinarily complex. We pride ourselves in understanding our client's concerns, desires and needs--while always keeping in mind the financial circumstances of the client--and translating that into an action plan.
For nearly 30 years, we have assisted our clients in registering their trademarks and copyrighting their creative works. We also vigorously litigated any infringement on these valuable intellectual property rights. We are also fully prepared to defend your rights should you infringe on the intellectual property rights of others whether by inadvertence or due to a misunderstanding of your legal right to publish the creative work. There are numerous defenses to infringement actions that may prevent you from being held liable. Regardless, we can protect your rights!
Property & Casualty Insurance Issues
W. Gary Kurtz is licensed as a California Property and Casualty Insurance Broker-Agent and has significant knowledge and experience with respect to your insurance needs, coverage issues in various insurance policies and claims handling.
We are also uniquely positioned to help you obtain a policy that is right for you with respect to your business needs, rental property or your home.
Real Property Law
In addition to being a licensed attorney, W. Gary Kurtz is a licensed California Real Estate Broker. The specialized knowledge Gary has acquired as a broker enhances the services we are able to provide our clients in evaluating potential purchases or sales, leases, development opportunities and, should the need arise, foreclosure on trust deed interests.
While many people believe that "intellectual property law" and "entertainment law" are interchangeable terms, in reality they involve different areas of expertise. Intellectual property laws deals with the ownership rights of individuals in creative works; entertainment law deals with the legal relationships of artists, producers and distributers to one-another. These rights are almost always established by reference to the contracts executed by the parties. While careful drafting of agreements can reduce the areas of dispute between parties, they can never be totally eliminated. We are exceptionally well prepared to deal with such disputes from beginning to end.
While we specialize in the core services itemized on this page, we also provide related services to our clients (such as simple estate planning), however, we will gladly refer you to a well qualified attorney for services unrelated to our areas of expertise.
